The Galaxy S6: What Will Samsung’s New Flagship Phone Bring to the Table?

samsung-s6It’s official: the Samsung Galaxy S6 is on the way for this spring. On April 10th, Samsung will reveal the next entry in its flagship smartphone line. And perhaps more than any device the company has released in the past, this one has awfully high stakes riding on it. Prior to last year, Samsung was able to have an automatic leg up on Apple, simply because the latter company seemed unwilling to release smartphone with a large screen. The pocket-sized iPhone always sold well, but for many buyers, it simply wasn’t big enough, which helped to fuel the sales of Galaxy devices.

However, last year Apple finally decided to take on Samsung directly, increasing the size of their devices with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The change allowed Apple to formulate its most successful phone launch ever, which means that Samsung will need to release something truly special with the Galaxy S6 in order to fight back. Luckily, “special” seems like precisely the word to describe the S6—at least with the pre-release information we already have in front of us. Here are some of the coolest new features that the Samsung phone is bringing to the table.

1. A Metal Design

One of the things that always kept the iPhone a step above the Galaxy was that Samsung consistently opted for a cheaper plastic design. With the S6, the company has finally sprung for a metal and gorilla glass design, which will make the phone look and feel significantly more impressive. And since the phone will use gorilla glass, it will still be super durable.

2. Advanced Charging Technology

Arguably the most exciting development with the Samsung Galaxy S6 is the boost in charging technology. First off, the device will be equipped with a brand new quick-charge technology, which will supposedly be able to offer two hours of video playback after just 10 minutes of charge time.

Secondly, the S6 will be the first smartphone ever to feature built-in wireless charging. Restaurants, cafes, and other businesses have started installing wireless charging pads, but until now, customers have needed to purchase accessories in order to harness the wireless charging capability. By building the feature into their phone, Samsung could be in the process of revolutionizing the mobile tech industry.

3. Processor Speed

Samsung wasn’t satisfied with the power and speed that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor chip brought to the Galaxy S5. Rather than wait around for Qualcomm to develop a superior processor, the company has now taken a leaf out of Apple’s book and developed a new chip in-house. The 2.1GHz processor, called the Exynos 7 Octa, should bring a notable boost of power and performance speed to the new phone. In fact, the chip could make the Samsung Galaxy S6 the fastest smartphone to ever operate on the Android platform.

These changes, along with a superior HD display, significant storage capacity (128GB of flash memory, to be exact), a solid camera, and even a new mobile pay system, make us excited to give the Samsung Galaxy S6 a test drive come April 10th.
